Needing a balance but it’s a different one than what most people have? Does yours have a coil instead of a spiral rod or spring? If so you have what is called a constant force balance or sometimes called a coil balance. These balances are a newer technology finding it’s way into the marketplace. These balances are more economical, have fewer moving parts, and have stainless steel springs.

There are several different kinds to fit the needs of multiple windows. These balances are pre tensioned stainless steel strips formed into a coil with an assembly of plastic parts. As the end of the formed stainless steel spring is pulled away from the coil assembly during sash operation, energy is loaded into the balance system while the spring tries to return to its original coiled shape. The return pull of the coil spring remains constant through every point in the extended balance travel.

How to order…

First, determine the weight of the balances based on sash weight or the stamp on the coil spring, some springs may not have a stamp and the sash will have to be weighed.

Second, pick the appropriate depth of your plastic housing

Third, pick the appropriate color of collar

Lastly pick out your accessories

Always remember that a sales rep is here to answer any questions you may have to help you pick out exactly what you are needing. Never hesitate to call with the silliest questions:) I have many customers that call and have no idea what they are needing or what the balances are even called. I just ask the customer to send me a picture and if they know the weight or stamp and I will do the rest.

Have you ever went to open your patio or closet door and it was stuck or strapping and wouldn’t roll back and forth? It can be such a pain when you can’t use your own door. We have had to replace the rollers and track for the glass patio door at my house a before. It can be very dangerous. You do not want a door falling on your foot!!! Replacing rollers is tricky but a simple things to figure out. One thing that makes it difficult is because you have to actually take off the door. It’s not easy to get the roller unless you can remove the door first. Your door wont work with one of the roller missing either so try to put it back with just roller under it. Roller are made out of metal or nylon and are sold individually and with the housing.. Making sure your measurements are accurate is the key to getting the right part.

I had a customer looking for new rollers for his patio door. He sent me a couple of pictures so I could see exactly what he had. He also sent me the measurements of the roller. His roller sits in housing which he didn’t need to replace. He just needed a new roller and axle and with his picture and dimensions it was pretty simple to pick out. Just another satisfied customer. Sending me picture or mailing me the part will defiantly make getting the correct part easier .

I should know because I’m one of the people here that gives it out!! (And I’m awesome) We answer questions all day and hear questions like “my thingy in the window is broke. What do I do?” or “my window falls down when I try to open it.” Which is fine and we pretty much always figure out what you’re talking about and what you need. Our website is very helpful as well. It answers a lot of questions and takes you step by step through the process of deciding what you need.

The best way to make sure you’re ordering the correct parts is to either email pictures with dimensions or just drop your part in the mail to me. That takes all the stress off of you. I’ll do all the work!! I have a secret weapon tho…our research department. They go above and beyond to call of duty when they are looking for a part. If they can’t find your part or if it’s no longer available they will find the replacement. We have tons of vendors we can use and an enormous amount of samples to compare to.

Our goal is to make the process of replacing your window hardware as easy and simple for you as possible. I know there is nothing more frustrating than wanting to use or open your window and not being able to. Especially now that’s spring and beautiful outside. I open my windows every chance I get. (Also saves on my power bill.)

So please don’t hesitate to call, email or mail us your parts. Let us help. That’s what we are here for!

The customer called in and asked if we sold Pella hardware and I told him yes and thinking in the back of my head the whole time “ this must be the latch again”. So I asked him if he would email me a picture of the latch just to be sure, because we love pictures! Not only is it helpful for the researching part of the process but it helps us to be 100% accurate on locating the correct match or replacement part if it’s no longer available. So along with the picture that he emailed me he sent along some measurements that are also very important.

I was able to print the picture and take it along with me as I went to our parts board to see if it was something we had here. Sometimes if myself or another sales rep can’t find it here then we will send it to our on-site research department for them to look into but in this case the part was on the board. I contacted the customer to let them know that I found the part he was needing and took a picture of it for him to compare and verify.

After he did that he gave me the quantity he needed and I emailed him a quote with the shipping cost included and he called to give me a credit card and we got the parts right out to him. It’s as easy as that. Granted some things do take a little more time depending on how old or custom they are but we try our best to get back to you as quickly as possible. So if you have a part that you just can’t find take a picture of it and email it on over to us and we will do the rest!

I spoke to a customer earlier today who has a casement hinge that can’t handle his window. He had a fairly large window in one of his bathrooms. He wants it to open 90 degrees. His window is 24 inches wide but he only has a 13 inch hinge on it. Well not wonder it wouldn’t open properly…the arms are to short!!!

The hardware for an awning window consists of two parts – the operator and the hinge. Both of these parts need to match to make sure it works properly. Here are a few facts about awning hinges.

• The awning hinges are hidden to give a smooth looking unit and is a way to make sure no one can tamper with your window.

• The hinge is designed so the sash drops down as it opens. It does this to prevent the metal arms from bending.

• Using a hinge that is too long for the sash can cause stress to the operator arms. The operator just can keep up.

• Getting to proper size of the hinge will allow the window to balance out and make the opening and closing smooth and easy. If the hinge is too small,(which was my customers problem) the weight of the sash is too much for his support arm and his window would slam shut. It also causes the window to bounce and shake when it is opening.

• There is an adjustment screw that increases or decreases friction so the window can be adjusted to the be the perfect fit for your window.

• The hinge support arm has a quick detach clip. This make taking sash out of the window really simple and easy. Gotta love simple and easy!!!

Alright folks, how many of you have a window that’s being held up by books, sticks, shoes, bars, or something else??? It is so frustrating to have a window to open that won’t stay open. Trust me I know how your feeling! We service so many schools, colleges, and universities that have these issues as well. Either the window will fly open and slam against the frame or it will open but not stay open. Most people think it’s the window and it’s time to replace the entire thing, but 99% of the time it’s only the balances that need to be replaced, and that is a much more inexpensive resolution to the problem.

We sell several different kind of balances here at WRS but the most popular are the block and tackle which have a rope, pulley, and string located in a metal channel and the spiral balances or sometimes called tube balances which have spiral rods that extend from one end of it. There are only a few questions that myself or other sales representatives will need to ask you just give us a call and we will be more than happy to assist you in your window hardware needs! Stop letting those windows slide down and potentionally cause a lot of danger to you or someone else, give us a call.

It’s that time of the year when we want to be able to open our windows and doors to let in some sunlight and fresh air…but can we? Do you have a screen to block the bugs from coming in? This year is going to be one of the worst years for mosquitos and who wants those pesky little bugs flying around our homes.

At Window Repair Systems we have a lot of options you can choose from, whether you need the screen mesh, frame, accessories, or tools to build your own screen, we got it! You can choose between the Standard Fiberglass Screen which is a flexible, economical and easy to install screening. Fiberglass screen does not crease, dent, or unravel. It is the most commonly used window and door screening for new construction and replacement window screens. It comes in multiple colors, but black and charcoal are the most popular, charcoal being at the top due to it’s best outward visibility. The Aluminum Wire Screen is a strong and durable insect screening that resists rust and will not sag. A protective finish prevents corrosion and strengthens the weave. Charcoal and black are also the most popular colors and both are the best at reducing glare for greater outward visibility. Patio, Porch, & Pool Insect Screen is a heavy duty fiberglass screen mesh designed for use in pool, patio, porch and sun room enclosures. It’s increased diameter strand is ideal for larger openings where extra strength is needed on wide spans of screen. Charcoal color is the most requested as it has the best outward visibility. No-See-Um Insect Window Screen is A finer mesh fiberglass screen to protect against no-see-um, gnats, sand flies, and other tiny insects common in low marshy and coastal areas. It is also heavy duty mesh suitable for patio, porch and pool enclosures. Charcoal color only. Florida Glass Privacy Screen is the same heavy mesh as pool & patio screen, with the addition of a plastic laminate to protect against the elements. Often used in the bottom portions of pool and patio enclosures to keep grass clippings out or in sections where privacy is desired. Charcoal color only.

The frame can be rolled form or extruded, and we have all the tools and hardware you could imagine. Please call me if you have questions or need to place an order. Hurry don’t wait any longer or the summer will fly by without you being able to open your windows or doors.

Spiral balances are just one of the types of balances we sell. They can used for a tilt or non-tilt window. The easiest way to tell is if it has 2 pins then it tilts and if it has one rod through it it is non-tilt. You get a smooth and easy sash operation with a spiral. They are also very easy to adjust. We have a lot different spirals. The most common are 40/50 and 100/200.The 40/50 are light duty, economical general purpose balances for domestic or commercial use. There is a coupling color on the end of the balance where the rod comes out that determines the weight range for the windows. The 100-200 are for heavier windows. (30-40lbs) When ordering you are going to want to take the balance out of the window. Measure the diameter and length of the rod. When you receive the balances they wont have any tension on them. You’ll need a tool to put the turns on. The amount of turns is based on the weight of your window.

We offer spiral balances for heavy duty windows too. They are called Ultra-lift and Turbo 2′s. They are a little bigger in diameter and for commercial windows. The Turbo’s can hold up to 100lbs. They are our super duper balances decked out with stainless steel rod, nut and a UV protected tube. These balances achieve their efficiency by combining spiral and extension spring technology, eliminating any plastic load bearing components. They are custom made for specific sash weights, so each sash is accurately counter balanced. It can used for a tilt or non-tilt window.

We have a replacement spiral for the Unique balances that are not longer available.. We would only need to know the diameter and length of the tube.

We have instructional videos online to help with installing the balances. It is very easy!

We also carry the tools to put the tension on the spirals.

Can’t get your casement window to open and close properly? Don’t put up with a struggle every time you open or close your casement window. Window Repair Systems can help! It pretty simple and usually doesn’t take very long to replace a bad crank. Most casement operators are sliding or scissor-arm mechanisms that may or may not be driven by a geared cranking device. If you window is not working properly check the arm for bent metal or lose screws. Dirt also gets trapped in the track and sill as well. You want to keep that clean.

To make sure you order the correct operator crank you need to first disengage the arm from the track or sash and the mounting screws from the window. Once you have it out of the window you can get the correct measurements. You want to measure the arm and note if it has an offset or a stabilizing tab. When measuring the holes measure center hole to center hole

We carry a lot of different operators and for the most part are able to replace operators that are no longer made.

You also want to check out the handles. Maybe your’s is stripped and needs to be replaced as well.

How does weatherstripping work? Do you feel a draft when you stand by your window? Is your power bill going up every month? I’ve got the answers to your questions.

Weatherstripping is a strip of material that blocks the air from coming through the cracks or leaks in your window or door. As your house settles new gaps develope and weatherstripping blocks out the weather from direct entry. It also keeps the cool or heated air in your home. Keeping your weatherstripping new will help with drafts in your home.

Which in turn has it’s own benefits. By keeping air inside or out less energy is used to heat and cool the home. Most people think that when their power bill goes up they may need new insulation which can cost a lot of money. Weatherstripping is a less expensive fix and if it’s been a long time since you have replaced it I would highly recommend you try it first. Think about your window sills. Are they getting dirty with outside material, pollen, bugs, etc. Somehow it’s getting in and I can predict that it’s time to change out your weatherstripping.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime with other questions or help figuring out your weatherstripping. Please also feel free to visit our website for other window and door hardware parts. Here is a direct link to our weatherstripping section of our catalog. Enjoy!
